Pulmonary Disease Treatment

Pulmonary medicine is the subspecialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the respiratory system, including the lungs, upper airways, thoracic cavity & chest wall. Most common respiratory problems are treated by general internists, however, pulmonologists are often called upon to assist with diagnosing unknown disorders and help in managing difficult, rare, or complicated pulmonary diseases that may occur in the respiratory system.

Dr. Robert Shpiner’s training is grounded with 32 years of practice at UCLA, as a referral source for and providing consultation on the most challenging cases. In addition, Dr. Shpiner served for 15 years as Medical/Pulmonary co-direction of a newly established Lung Transplantation Program; which currently is number one in the nation.

Dr. Shpiner’s practice provides evaluation for all areas of lung and pulmonary diseases Including: first contact for new symptoms of breathlessness or difficulty breathing; chest pain, changes in breathing pattern, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, chronic infections, chronic cough, environmental influences, referral from Primary Care physicians for problem based consultation and all second opinions. Additionally available are medical/legal opinions, ongoing integrated care for established diagnoses; record review, re-evaluation of current treatments, and access to higher level of care and management with University Affiliation. As with Internal Medicine: the foundation is establishing a complete and detailed information base. Time spent understanding before testing, and constant re-evaluation of progress in detail forms the basis for ongoing care.
